Bulk non-toxic treatments

A pest-infested cargo that requires a fast and cost-effective solution can be perfectly treated with a bulk treatment. No investment needed; curated on location. Go for non-toxic fumigation.

Why choose bulk treatments?

Following the same technology as Control Union Controlled Atmosphere Fumigation but applied under the form of Silo and tent treatments. This option is very suitable for curative treatments as it does not require an upfront investment such as with a controlled atmosphere.

The wonders of the Plug and Play system

Control Union developed the special plug and play system’’ that works as follows:

Similar to CA chambers, at the heart of the system is the Machine Room, housed within a standard 20 or 40-foot container, featuring a low-oxygen converter.

The process begins with the intake of air into the Machine Room, where the oxygen level is significantly reduced. The treated air, now containing less than 1.5% oxygen, is channeled through a tube into the silo. With this technique, a low oxygen environment is created just like in the Controlled Atmosphere Chambers. This technique will offer the same benefits as a CA chamber but in a silo.

To maintain safety and prevent structural damage to the silo, an Over/Under Pressure Valve with an integrated O2 measuring unit is installed. This critical component regulates the pressure within the silo to prevent im- or explosion and continuously monitors oxygen levels to provide vital information for controlling and assessing the effectiveness of the treatment.

Tent treatments: the perfect treatment alternative to silos

Commodity owners needing to do a treatment can also count on Bulk non toxic treatments. This technique is very suitable for ‘’one time’’ treatments as it does not require an upfront investment and is immediately available. Here’s how it works: We start by assessing the situation, identifying the types and severity of pest infestations, and measuring the actual size of the cargo. Our intervention is designed to be simple and flexible. We ensure the cargo environment is as gastight as possible, place essential wireless sensors for oxygen, temperature, and humidity, and then begin the treatment. Continuous online monitoring of all parameters (O2, temp, relative humidity) allows us to maintain optimal conditions throughout the process. Once the treatment is complete, we remove our equipment, and your product is immediately ready for transport or its intended use, with no degassing required.

Frequently asked questions (FAQ)

This all depends on multiple parameters such as the commodity, insect species, and product temperature. Since a commodity may be infested with more than one type of insect, the treatment parameters are set to eliminate the toughest insect within the product lot. Please reach out to us to ask for an estimation of how long a treatment would take at your facility.

Yes. A bulk treatment eliminates insects at all life stages including eggs, larvae, pupae, and adults.

We simply reduce the oxygen level below 1.5% in an enclosed environment where the insect is. The air we breathe consists of 78% nitrogen, 21% of oxygen and 1% of other gasses. Thanks to the CUPM technology, we filter out the oxygen present in the air by flushing pure nitrogen in the treatment room. Therefore, we lower the oxygen levels down to 0.5%. No toxic chemicals are used.

No investment is required to perform a bulk treatment. Treatment is possible at your own facility, our facilities or your partners’ facility. The only requirement for treatments at your location is electricity, to enable the treatment to be performed.

We provide specific certificates for containers or shipments at the request of the customer. Obtain an internationally recognized certificate for treated cargos that are monitored by Monitoring Solutions.

Our systems include monitoring equipment that can show you the entire treatment parameters. If you require monitoring services, our team can support you by identifying any problems that may arise and notifying you promptly. Please see Monitoring Solutions for more information.
